Giving Thanks

Thank you gourds for being so mignon!

This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and while as a vegetarian I don’t look forward to a turkey dinner, I do enjoy stuffing, mashed potatoes and my newly discovered obsession appreciation for home baked pumpkin pie.  Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to sit down and reflect on our abundant fortunes: be it our family, friends, our health or good spirit.  Even when times are difficult, it’s always a great comfort to look around and count your blessings.  That’s my pep talk for long weekend.

Here are a few things I am thankful for (I could go on for days but here is a sampling):

  • Maple Tree Nostalgia – Whenever I take a long walk, I love staring up at the sun shining through the leaves and admiring the changing colours.  Emerald greens, ambers, gold, oranges and reds.  There is something about it that makes me overwhelmingly happy.  The sound of crunching leaves under my soles reminds me of elementary school days, collecting maple leaves to press in parchment paper and scrapbook.
  • Tiny Pumpkins –  I see them everywhere, overflowing in barrels on sidewalks, decorating window displays, on doorstoops.  I’m not sure what I would do with them besides decorating a table setting for a dinner party, but I think they are adorable.
  • Quoteable thankfulness – Here are some uplifting grains of wisdom.

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” – Albert Schweitzer

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melody Beattie

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
– Marcel Proust

Happy Thanksgiving! xoxo The LC
