The LC Shows You Love: Rosetta Stone Necklace Giveaway

In my spare time, I love making jewellery.  The kind that is bright, fanciful and makes a statement.  I actually taught myself how by watching tutorials on YouTube.  I mean, how did we ever exist before the Internet?  I also managed to hone my skills by attending an earring bee, supervised by supportive expert beaders.

As The Love Collage approaches her first anniversary, I thought it would be a nice thank you to my loyal readers and a lovely welcome gesture to new ones to do a giveaway.  Up for grabs is a charming textile and bead piece from my line Rosetta Stone

Loveable Thursdays

I was born on a Wednesday but Thursday will always have my heart as a favourite day of the week.  There’s something about this day so charming and delightful; perhaps it’s because it marks the beginning of the weekend, the only evening worth going out to party and for some strange reason, frequently a day where people skip out on work to sit on a grassy nole enjoying the sunshine and getting their tan on (a la Clueless).

In celebration of such a loveable Thursday, random loves du jour:

Alexis Bittar Montauk Coral Bubble Ring: I have always been in love with pave but this one stands out with its cocktail size, sparkle and coral stones. Well, I love you on so many levels.

Girlcrush Alert: Emma Stone awesome in House Bunny and kick-butt in Zombieland. She really deserves her own post.

You know some days you want to eat your feelings. Nothing does the trick like an Ice cream sandwich or a scoop of Greg's ice cream in 'Roasted Marshmallow.' Enjoy in moderation.

10 Things I Love About You

This post is inspired by the great teen comedy 10 Things I Hate About You, starring an angsty Julia Stiles (whatever happened to her?) and hottt KB material Heath Ledger.  Of course, an adorable, baby faced JGL (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is in it too!   This film was a modern adaptation of The Taming of The Shrew, a very amusing rental if you feel like reclining on your Ektorp (Ikea’s #1 selling couch) in your leisure outfit on a Friday night.

After less than six months in the virtual web, my little blog Love Collage has reached 10,000 hits.  I love writing so it makes me truly humbled to know that you enjoy reading.  While I will imperfectly attempt to use iambic pentameter (Shakespeare’s metered rhythm) to express to you my loyal followers in poetry no less, the depth of my appreciation, please no judging.

10 Things I Love About You

In the Winter or in the Fall, you are with me through it all.

You let me muse on random things,

From smokey eyes to cocktail rings.

You like to keep up with stylish girls,

from New York to London, you’ve seen it all.

You love hipsters too yet wonder why.

You do funny things that make me cry.

You have a heart and mind that wants to know,

Astrology, Akon’s new collabo, the latest trends in Vogue.

You have a laugh that makes me smile.

You adore a casbah decorated in Morrocan tile.

You love the sexual tension of Chuck and Blair.

You hit that dancefloor with fringe and flair.

Like a gloomy day, a ray of sunshine through the fog,

I love you most, because you read this blog.

Science Experiments (aka Sidewalk Diversions)

My bestie N and I often joke about amusing things to do on the sidewalk.  We refer to these as Science Experiments, actually it’s more like breaking social code.  First we come up with a question, a hypothesis of onlooker reaction or a prediction of the outcome, then we act on the experiment, followed in many cases by a full-bodied laugh and conclusion.  People watching is immensely entertaining.  Here are a few ideas in digging deeper into the human condition…very Jung.

  • Skipping – Freedom!  This is especially fun when it’s a sunny day.  Just link hands with your bestest friend and skip for a block.  Yes, you may pant breathlessly but this just means you may need to hit the treadmill.  I have done this a few times with my friend C after a vintage shame spiral.  So liberating.
  • Count Boys in Skinny Pants – Ridiculously OOC in a hipster area (Queen West West).  Oh Seth Cohen, what have you done?
  • Break out into dance – What else do you do when Beyonce sings, ‘Single Ladies?’
  • Join Me in Song – Start quietly and progressively go crescendo.  This gem is particularly effective in co-creating a duet if you can carry a tune.  This one time, I started to sing “All These Things I’ve Done” by the Killers, and a random hipster joined me for 4 verses.  True story.

If anything each will put a smile on yours or a stranger’s face.

Who Needs Prozac?

Now that Fall has officially entered our lives and the streets are filled with soggy leaves, are you fighting a bout of melancholy and chill to the bone?  Is your heart humming a Carpenters tune ‘Rainy days and Mondays always get me down…” To stave off seasonal depression (aka the winter blues), just go to YouTube and Search “Carebear Countdown”  You won’t be sorry.  Sharing is caring.

LC Shows you Love: 2 weeks & almost 1,000 Views!

The Defining Moment:  I had been pondering for some time writing but I was unsure how to approach it.  One morning, I was driving into work listening to the radio.  This random girl was talking about the success of her blog that posted weird images of food or funky combinations such as meatloaf shaped as Stonehenge or Twinkies wrapped in bacon to mimic The Washington Monument.  All of these photos were sent in from readers.  Then the DJ says, “So, is it true?  That you have a book deal in the works?”  She replies, “Well…I can’t talk about the details but yes there will be a coffee table book next year.”  WTF??!!  That’s it!  I must act!  It really pushed me over the edge.  Not that I’m judging her blog.  It just makes you think.  If someone can do something really random and be successful at it, then what am I waiting for??  This is exactly what Gwen Stefani was singing about ’tick tock, tick tock.’

A BIG THANK you to all you lovers of the LC!  If I could, I would fashion a string of red construction paper hearts and decorate them with pink glitter for you (because I’m also quite artistic & crafty).  Within a little over 2 weeks my blog has received almost 1,000 views.  If you’ve read the “ABOUT” page, you may have learned about my ‘should I, shouldn’t I’ back and forth dilemma.  The internal struggle we all face when it comes to taking any sort of leap with an endeavour.  You really never know how these things will be received.  Well, I’m really glad that I did take the jump.  My friend Y will be starting a Love Collage Fan page on Facebook.  Get involved.  Keep coming back for more.  Tell your friends.  Fresh love daily…from the heart!
